Myths About Chronic Pain

You and I both are both likely to have had it, chronic pain affects millions of people around the world.  Naturally, because it is a part of so many peoples’ lives, there are many myths about it.  We are here to sort out the confusion for everyone, so here are a few highlights that we want to share.

  1. You would be inclined to think that resting is good for your back pain, however, that is actually not true.  In fact, experts say that long bed rest is one of the worst things that you can do if you have back pain.
  2. Many people would ignore minor pain and have the “tough it out” mentality.  However, even if the pain can be curbed, if it lasts over a week, then you shouldn’t ignore it.
  3. The saying “Pain is just of aging” is simply false.  Elderly people can live a relatively pain-free life according to WebMD, and if chronic pain is bothering the individual, then seeing a pain specialist to find relief is highly recommended.
  4. Have you read many stories about painkiller addiction? You should not fear being addicted to painkillers if you are following the doctor’s direction of taking medication to relieve your pain.

Pain can affect you both physically and mentally, and you should not settle with chronic pain because there are always ways to find relief and live a better quality of life.
