Preserve Your Joint Health

My family has a long history of arthritis. My grandmother is suffering from it, my mother and her siblings are experiencing it, and they expect me to have arthritis as well.  However, there are ways that I can preserve my joint health to prevent myself from getting arthritis, or at the very least limit the symptoms of arthritis in the future.  According to the Arthritis Foundation, here are some steps we can take to keep our joints healthy:

  • Eat healthily and stay active to keep off extra weight.  Being overweight is unhealthy, and it puts stress on the joints and body.
  • Increase your calcium intake for better bone health. Be sure to add vitamin D in your diet for better effectiveness.
  • Add salmon, or other fishes containing Omega-3 fatty acid. It has shown to reduce inflammation in joints of people living with arthritis
  • Choose low-impact alternatives when exercising.  Try biking or swimming rather than running.
  • Pay your doctor a visit and have them check out your joint health and seek recommendations on how you can protect your joints

There are many other ways to preserve your joint health, and we want everyone to get involved and help those living with arthritis or who may get it in the future.
