Reducing Risk for Colorectal Cancer

Pasadena Brain Injury and Tumor Care

About 140,000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer and about 50,000 people with this cancer die each year. Most of these cases occur in adults older than 50.  We want to shed some light onto this cancer and hopefully provide some insight for those who have little knowledge about the disease.

Risks for colorectal cancer increases as a person age, which is why over 90% of the cases are in people 50 and older.  The best way to fight colorectal cancer is through cancer screening.  Screening detects early precancerous polyps for colorectal cancer and prevents the cancer from forming by removing these polyps.  Moreover, if the cancer cells already exist, but it is detected early through screening, treatment can lead to a cure. The most important thing to note here is that people living with colorectal cancer or have the precancerous polyps might not experience symptoms until it is too late, so being proactive about screening can definitely help prevent more serious consequences from this disease that affects so many.
