Kidney Disease & Dialysis Care
Your kidneys serve the function of removing excess fluid and waste, including toxins, from your blood. Kidneys also regulate fluids, hormones in charge of bone health and the balance of red blood cells in your body.
When kidneys are unable to serve their purpose, serious health consequences occur.
People with renal or kidney failure must undergo a regimen of dialysis treatments to help maintain a healthy balance of fluids, red blood cells and prevent the buildup of toxins in the body.
Dialysis is not a permanent solution. If your kidneys can’t resume normal functions your medical care team may suggest a kidney replacement surgery.
What Causes Renal / Kidney Failure:
Pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure can lead to Chronic Kidney Disease or Renal Disease.
You should consult your primary physician if you suspect you may have kidney disease. There may not be obvious signs in the early stages of kidney disease but early detection of any serious health condition provides a better prognosis.
Some of the symptoms of Chronic Kidney Disease are:
- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue and weakness
- Nausea / Vomiting
- Trouble Sleeping
- Urinating more or less frequently
- High blood pressure (hypertension), difficult to control
- Mental Fatigue, trouble concentrating
- Dry, itchy skin
- Muscle cramps
- Signs of Fluid Retention
- Swelling of feet and ankles
- Shortness of breath, possible fluid in the lungs
- Chest pain, fluid may build up around the lining of the heart
