Heart attacks, also known as Myocardial Infarctions, occur when blood flow to a part of the heart muscle is interrupted; creating permanent damage that can create further complications from a permanently weakened heart. There are 5 types of heart attacks and the most common is oftentimes a product of pre-existing medical conditions such as Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, or high blood pressure.
Elders and Seniors who are back at home from receiving emergency medical care must take great measures to better their lifestyle and avoid a second heart attack. Living with a weakened heart muscle can be a gateway to future and potentially lethal complications such as ventricular aneurysm, ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, or heart failure. Doctors may recommend getting more exercise, quitting smoking and drinking, controlling blood pressure and blood sugar levels better, or eating healthier. Your loved one may be prescribed medication therapy such as antiplatelet drugs, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, statins, or heparins.
