When the motor neurons of the brain and spinal cord degenerate, it is known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease and medically termed as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. “Amyotrophic” means no muscle nourishment, which describes exactly what happens when the motor neurons aren’t able to communicate with the muscles of the body. As the disease progresses, the muscles become weaker, shrink in size, and make activities of daily living incredibly difficult for Elderly and Senior individuals.
