The VA provides Veterans Pension and the Aid and Attendance Benefit for Elders and Seniors.  To qualify for Veterans Pension, the applicant must have served at least 90 days of active-duty service with at least one day during a wartime period.  They must also be at least 65 years old, OR receiving Social Security Disability Insurance, OR receiving Supplemental Security Income, OR be totally disabled. 

To determine how much pension you might be eligible for, Congress sets an annual household income that yours should not exceed.  For the Aid and Attendance Benefit, even if you don’t qualify for pension because of income, you might still be able to qualify.

With the Aid and Attendance Benefit, you must be able to prove to the VA that you need the assistance of another individual for activities of daily living because of some chronic illness or other reason.  The VA suggests submitting a physician’s report that describes your condition and how you go about on a normal day.
