Multiple Sclerosis is an inflammatory disease that affects the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord. The body’s immune system attacks the insulating substance of nerve cells called myelin, causing demyelination and scarring which makes it difficult for the brain and spinal cord to communicate effectively with each other. Each individual’s experience with the disease is unique in terms of symptoms they may have and progression of the disease. MS can cause symptoms such as loss of sensitivity, numbness or tingling sensations, difficulty moving, muscle spasms and weakness, loss of balance and coordination, blurry vision, fatigue, chronic pain, problems with the bladder and bowels, and other symptoms.
