Multiple Sclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that can affect physical and cognitive functioning over time. The disease attacks the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord, attacking a protective substance of the nerve cells called myelin. As myelin degenerates, so does communication between the brain and spinal cord with other parts of the body. Symptoms may include blurred vision, lack of coordination, numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, bladder and bowel problems, fatigue, difficulty with mobility, speech problems, and thinking problems.
