Living with kidney problems or chronic urinary tract infections is feasible but it’s always better to prevent life threatening conditions, like renal failure. The only possible treatments for renal failure are dialysis or a kidney transplant so prevention is ideal. The leading causes of chronic kidney disease are diabetes, high blood pressure and lupus. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or high blood pressure, it’s important to eat healthy, lose weight, exercise regularly and follow your doctor’s instructions regarding lifestyle and medications. While medical experts are still unsure what causes systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), this is what is known:

  • 90% of lupus sufferers are women
  • 60% of cases will occur between ages 15 and 45
  • 40% of cases will occur after age 60
  • Latino, Asian, African American, and Native American women are at greater risk
