A-1 Home Care Agency is thankful for wonderful, compassionate in home caregivers like Crystal Carr. Crystal has been a caregiver for the elderly and seniors for 5 years and is currently providing hourly at home care for Mrs. B in Wilmington, California.
Crystal didn’t choose to be an elderly caregiver until her Grandfather became ill with lung cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. She and her Grandmother were determined to care for him at home instead of placing him in a nursing home. Crystal said, “We both took CPR classes to help care for him and I learned I loved caring for people.” Crystal was a cashier for 12 years and would never have known how much joy she received from caring for seniors and elderly people. “I’ve learned to care more about other people’s needs and have realized everyone needs and deserves to be loved and cared for. I really like being the person who makes ill or disabled seniors feel special.”
Mrs. B and Crystal have formed a close relationship built on affection, respect and compassion. “My client doesn’t like to be called “Ma’am”, so I call her “Love Bug”. It makes her smile every time.” They spend a lot of time sitting on the porch listening to audio books, going for walks and during water aerobics at a local indoor pool. Since Mrs. B is visually impaired and in her 90’s, Crystal helps her around the house and to keep socially active.
“I love the way Mrs. B’s eyes light up when she greets me at the front door, going to work is such a pleasure. If my grandfather hadn’t gotten sick, I wouldn’t be working for an in home care agency or known the joy of caring for the elderly.”
Crystal reminisced about caring for her Grandfather as the Alzheimer’s progressed. “While I was caring for him, he had a baby that needed everything he needed. If he was eating a bowl of oatmeal, she had to have a bowl. When I gave him his medications he insisted she have some too. The thing is, the “baby” was imaginary. When my Grandfather did something he wasn’t supposed to he would smile mischievously and tell me “It was the baby, she’s bad. It makes me laugh to even think about it.”
The staff of A-1 Home Care Agency appreciates the hard work and caring heart Crystal Carr provides to our senior clients and we are thankful that she found her way to our caregiver agency.
